Jasper Server OS:

The Future of Your Reporting Infrastructure

The world of open-source reporting underwent a fundamental transformation in 2024. As of January 25, 2024, Jaspersoft no longer offers the well-known JasperReports Server Community Edition as a free download. As a result, the community version will no longer receive official security updates or technical enhancements in the future.

The New Standard: Jasper Server OS

To ensure continuity and security for your reporting projects, we’ll guide you through the transition to Jasper Server OS. As the direct functional successor, it enables companies to continue working on a high-performance platform, while the JasperReports Library and Jaspersoft Studio remain available as open-source components.

Our expertise to help you make the switch:

  • Migration Consulting: We analyze your existing Community installation and show you the most secure path to the latest generation of servers.
  • Contract Management: We assist you in selecting and securing the appropriate licenses for JasperReports Server or maintenance and support contracts, ensuring that your reports remain secure and scalable well into the future.
  • Long-Term Support: Take advantage of our experience in implementing and maintaining Jasper environments after the end of the classic Community Edition. Secure your reporting environment.

We would be happy to advise you personally on the upgrade options and the benefits of the latest server versions.

Version 8.4.0

Following Jaspersoft’s unexpected and disappointing decision to discontinue JasperReports Server Community Edition, we were pleased to see that a vibrant community is actively creating and continuously developing forks of the software. As long-time advocates of the JasperReports platform, BI and reporting experts, and a trusted partner to our customers for both commercial Jaspersoft products and community versions, BIOSDB actively supports the further development of the open-source version of JasperReports Server.

To this end, we scanned, reviewed, and tested the most promising adaptations and source code repositories. Countless hours were spent interacting with community members, conducting analyses, and building automated systems.

The collaboration paid off: In 2025, we successfully created the first versions, 8.3.0 and 8.4.0, based on official open-source forks of the original JasperReports Server Community Edition, and made them available to our customers after thoroughly testing the source code and functionality.

Version 9.0.0

Jasper Server OS version 9.0.0 follows the version numbering scheme of the commercial version. It represents an intermediate step on the path to version 10, which will upgrade Jasper Server OS to the latest middleware and Java versions, thereby making it ready for the future.

Version 9.0.0 includes several bug fixes and security updates, as well as an update to the new version 7 of the JasperReports library.

Version 10.0.0

Coming soon: We have successfully created and tested the first versions of the completely revamped software based on the official community forks on GitHub. Following a final phase of security checks, certification, and bug fixes, an official release is expected on May 31, 2026.

Release Notes

The focus of this version of Jasper Server is clearly on the transition to the latest Java Jakarta libraries. This paves the way for the future and the move to the latest application server versions, such as Tomcat 11 or JBoss 8. Jasper Server OS remains fully compatible with Jaspersoft’s commercial products.
Based on the community’s feedback, we’ve put together a brief release letter for you (to be expanded later):

Platform Support

We have been involved in the development of the new Jasper Server OS from the very beginning and have actively driven it forward. Thanks to a high degree of automation in system testing and security checks, we are able to offer a wide range of system combinations and installation types with our maintenance and support guarantees. We focus on the most common and widely used middleware. If needed, we’ll assess your specific requirements and expand our portfolio with a certified setup.
